Back from Superman Returns
Saw it with some friends today. Reaction: good! This film went all-out on visual effects, and I am satisifed. My opinion: worse than Batman Begins, better than X-men, on par with the Spiderman movies. Much cheesy dialogue was present, and several stupid moments, but ultimately entertaining.
Some flaws I felt were too large to ignore:
- Fortress of Solitude apparently has no security system of any kind or difficult terrain to keep regular humans out that only Superman can navigate.
- Lex Luthor plot device - "No one will allow you to do this." "Aha but I have TECHNOLOGY! I can beat ANYTHING!" So - Luthor apparently has the army and tech to sustain full-on aggression by every single country on the earth to be devastated by these floods? Well SHOW it to me then, because the only things he seemd to own were a cruise ship, a helicopter, and some crystals he stole.
- Lois Lane is loose.
Neat parts:
- The opening scene of the planet explosion and the space travel, viewed on IMAX, is coolest thing ever.
- Interpretation of how Superman learned to fly.
- Bullet 2 Eye.
- The entire segment where he falls from space and everything after that (except for Lois's "I DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN HEAR ME" scene which must have been used a zillion times in every movie made)
- More Imax stuff.
Go watch this on Imax if you can. The movie feels like it was made specifically for that giant screen in mind. It's definitely worth it.
Also, GO FRANCE! BWAHAHAHAHAAA!!!! Zidane is awesome :)
